Seed Cycling - What is it?
A Gentle Ritual That Honours Your Feminine Flow
As we all know by now, us women are cyclical beings. Our energy, mood, and overall wellbeing is governed by our menstrual cycle. Yet in modern life, we are taught to ignore these natural ebb and flows, resulting in women feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, and falling ill.
Today, I have decided to share a ritual with you that offers a beautiful deepening of connection to the self - seed cycling. An ancient practice that utilises the benefits of seeds to support female health during the various stages of the cycle. Whether you experience PMS, or just want to feel more connected to your femininity - this practice will help ground and support you through it.
Seed Cycling Definition: This nutritional practice involves eating specific seeds during the phases of each month to aid hormone balance and alleviate PMS-like symptoms. With roots in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, this practice dates back thousands of years and continues to support women through their different stages of womanhood.
How Does It Work?
This practice splits the cycle into two phases: Phase 1 is The Follicular Phase (Days 1-14, from menstruation to ovulation), and Phase 2 is The Luteal Phase (Days 15-28, post-ovulation to menstruation). In Phase 1, the body needs help producing oestrogen, and in Phase 2 the body needs help with progesterone production.
What Seeds Do We Use?
In Phase 1 - Flax Seeds & Pumpkin Seeds (These seeds help boost that creative energy associated with ovulation all whilst supporting oestrogen production)
In Phase 2 - Sesame Seeds & Sunflower Seeds (Whilst these seeds comfort and nourish the body and support progesterone production)
How To Practice?
Start by taking 1tbsp of these seeds daily depending where you are in your cycle. For better absorption, you can add them to meals like so:
Yoghurt Bowls
Salads
Smoothies
Pastas
(The great thing about seeds are, they don’t have much taste, so they are easy to add into your daily meals without affecting flavour!)
Final Verdict:
Will seed cycling fix your PMS? No. But it will help you take power back in your femininity, it offers a step in the right direction towards hormonal equanimity. Each spoonful acts as a gentle reminder that your body isn’t “broken” or “irregular” - it’s sacred, circular - and ✨AMAZING✨
