Feng Shui - what is it and how it works
It’s time to talk interiors, more specifically - your home. This blog page is dedicated to posts about self improvement, wellness and self love. And one of the biggest ways we can give back to ourselves is having a safe and comfortable place to call home. Interior design shouldn’t be taken lightly, your environment dictates your habits, you need a calm space to achieve a calm state of mind. In this post I am going to give you a few tips based on the Chinese practice of Feng Shui on how to turn your home into your sanctuary that brings you wealth, health and happiness…
Let’s talk feng shui
(Pronounced fung shway), is an ancient Chinese practice that involves bringing harmony to your environment. It is based on the idea that energy (known as “Chi”) affects our wellbeing. So by arranging our home in a certain way, we can change the energy in our environment to be more successful, healthy and happy.
Here’s how you can use Feng Shui to improve you home:
Incorporate the Five Elements
Wood (growth, creativity) – Represented by plants, wooden furniture, and green colours.
Fire (passion, energy) – Candles, fireplaces, and red/orange colours bring warmth.
Earth (stability, grounding) – Stones, ceramics, and earthy tones promote calm.
Metal (clarity, precision) – Metal objects and white or metallic colours enhance focus.
Water (flow, abundance) – Mirrors, fountains, and blue/black hues encourage movement and prosperity.
Balance the Yin & Yang energies in your home
Yin (soft, feminine and quiet) and Yang (active, masculine and bold) should be equally balanced in your home. For example, your bedroom should have more Yin energy (soft lighting, calming colours), while an office should have more Yang (bright light, energising colours).
Declutter your space to declutter your mind
Clutter blocks the free flow of chi (energy), leading to stagnation in different aspects of life. A clean and tidy space allows energy to move freely, bringing more clarity and prosperity.
The power of Mirrors
Mirrors are powerful in Feng Shui as they reflect energy. They can be used to expand space and bring in more light, but should never reflect clutter, as this doubles negative energy.
The “Mouth of your home”
Your front door into your home is where energy enters. Keeping it clean, bright, and inviting allows positive energy, opportunities, and good fortune to flow into your home.
